Shops Closing advisory
Labour Minister Anna Thistle advises that April 15, 2001, Easter Sunday, is a holiday pursuant to the provisions of the Shops Closing Act. The act requires that all shops, other than those defined as exempt, be closed on that day. Examples of exempt shops include: convenience stores, newsstands, service stations, restaurants and drug stores.
Easter Sunday is not a paid public holiday under the Labour Standards Act. The five paid public holidays are New Year's Day, Good Friday, Memorial Day, Labour Day and Christmas Day.
