Department releases Labour Standards Review Board Report

Labour Minister Anna Thistle announced today that copies of the Report of the Labour Standards Review Board are now available to the general public. This report which contains 45 recommendations, was submitted to government in June of 2000 and released to key stakeholders for their review and comments.

"Since that time my department has been consulting with these stakeholders to ensure their views with respect to the implications of the recommendations receive full consideration," said Minister Thistle. "We look forward to continuing this ongoing process of dialogue with the stakeholders and I anticipate any changes to our labour standards legislation to be made during the fall session of the House of Assembly.

"The Labour Standards Act is an extremely important piece of legislation that governs the majority of workplaces in the province, and we must ensure that it is relevant to address the challenges faced by employers and employees."

Copies of the Labour Standards Review Board Report are available through the department by calling: (709) 729-2743, 1-877-563-1063 or through the website at www.gov.nl.ca/env/labour.

Media contact: Kathy Dicks-Peyton, Communications, (709) 729-1741.
