Minister of Justice names Grand Bank Courthouse

Minister of Justice and Attorney General Kelvin Parsons will officially name the Grand Bank Courthouse in Grand Bank today.

The Courthouse will be named the T. Alex Hickman Courthouse in honour of the Honourable T. Alex Hickman. T. Alex Hickman was appointed Chief Justice of the Trial Division in December 1979. His term as Chief Justice spanned a period of monumental change. He retired after nearly 21 years in office on October 19, 2000.

"It gives me great pleasure to honour this outstanding individual," said Minister Parsons. "Chief Justice Hickman is a tremendous inspiration to the Newfoundland and Labrador Legal Community."

Minister Parsons praised Chief Justice Hickman for his outstanding public service, including his 10 year term as Minister of Justice and Attorney General.

Minister Parsons will take part in a dedication ceremony this afternoon to officially name the building in Grand Bank. He will be joined by Minister Judy Foote, MHA - Grand Bank, representatives of Newfoundland Justice System and several visiting members of Chief Justice Hickman�s family.
