Minister comments on potential benefits from White Rose

Industry, Trade and Technology Minister Sandra C. Kelly said that she is pleased with the level of commitment to local benefits shown to date by operators of the White Rose project. Earlier this week, operator Husky Oil Operations Ltd. and joint owner Petro-Canada announced that they filed the Development Application with the Canada-Newfoundland Offshore Petroleum Board.

"The preliminary indications from Husky Oil and Petro-Canada tell us that they are very committed to local benefits that will come as a result of the White Rose development," said Minister Kelly. "We have already been assured that the engineering work will be done locally and we will work with these companies to ensure that other components of the project are also done here in Newfoundland and Labrador."

"Newfoundland and Labrador has steadfastly built an offshore oil industry from the ground up. We want to continue to build on this momentum, and our intention is to continue to work very closely with all stakeholders to maximize the benefits of the White Rose development for local businesses," said Minister Kelly.
