Going Global Workshops focus on finance tips for exporters

During November, current and potential exporters will have an opportunity to learn first hand about managing the financial aspects of exporting through a province-wide series of "Going Global" workshops which start today.

The workshops will include information on programs and services for exporters relating to international trade financing. They will allow participants to discuss export issues, exchange ideas and network. In addition to current and potential exporters, the sessions are also targeted towards regional economic development boards, local chambers of commerce, industry associations and government employees.

Brian Tobin, federal Minister of Industry, Robert Thibault, Minister of State for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA) and Beaton Tulk, provincial Minister of Industry, Trade and Rural Development, announced that the initiative received $25,900 from the Canada/Newfoundland Comprehensive Economic Development Agreement.

"Export development is key to a strong, vibrant and growing economy," noted Minister Tobin. "The Going Global' workshops will provide current and potential entrepreneurs from across Newfoundland and Labrador with relevant and useful information to help them tap into international markets."

"The export of products and services from our province is growing steadily," said Minister Tulk. "Exporting provides access to new markets for Newfoundlanders and Labradorians, brings new dollars into our economy, creates new jobs and helps diversify our economy. This is why government has targeted this area as a priority for action in its Jobs and Growth Renewal Strategy."

The workshops are being organized by the Department of Industry, Trade and Rural Development, in partnership with Trade Team Newfoundland and Labrador.
