Government to assume responsibility for Mobility Impaired Parking Program

The Motor Registration Division (MRD) of the Department of Government Services and Lands will assume responsibility for the Mobility Impaired Parking Program, now administered by the Canadian Paraplegic Association (CPA), on January 2, 2002.

The CPA will continue to distribute mobility impaired parking permits, free of charge, until January 2. The $25 fee was eliminated in August. MRD will also issue permits free of charge.

Minister Walter Noel said: "I want to express my deep thanks to the Canadian Paraplegic Association for the tremendous work they have done in administering this program over the past nine years. I also want to commend them for the work they have done and the cooperation they have shown as we examined best methods for delivering this service in the future. I also want to thank representatives of other disabled groups who made their views known about how we should deal with this matter."
