Trout River resident receives jail time and fine for illegal possession of moose meat

Lindsay Crocker of Trout River was convicted in Provincial Court at Woody Point on December 10 for illegal possession of moose meat. This conviction was a result of charges laid by a conservation officer with the Department of Forest Resources and Agrifoods stationed in Rocky Harbour.

Judge Donald Luther imposed a fine of $3,000 and sentenced Mr. Crocker to 30 days in jail. In addition, Mr. Crocker was administered a life-time ban on applying for a big game licence.

This is the second time in less than two years that Mr. Crocker has been convicted of a big game offence. He was convicted of a previous offence in February 2000. The fact that this was Mr. Crockers second offence within five years contributed to the severity of Judge Luthers sentence.

The conviction also resulted in 50 pounds of moose meat, an 18-foot dory, a 45 horse power outboard motor and a 30-30 rifle being forfeited to the Crown.
