Undercover enforcement operation results in convictions

A resident of River of Ponds on the Northern Peninsula has been found guilty of several offences relating to illegal hunting. The convictions stem from an undercover investigation conducted by conservation officers with the Department of Forest Resources and Agrifoods. The investigation was carried out during the fall of 1999 and spring of 2000.

The individual was convicted at provincial court in Port aux Choix on November 28, 2001. Judge David Orr found the man guilty of hunting at night, hunting out of area, killing game while not being the holder of a valid game licence and discharging a firearm within 300 metres of a dwelling. In addition, at provincial court in Corner Brook on December 4, the same individual was convicted of an additional charge of unlawfully hunting a migratory bird.

The individual received fines totalling $2,200 and is prohibited from hunting big game for five years.
