Silviculture funding for Lewisporte district

Forest Resources and Agrifoods Minister Rick Woodford has announced the approval of a silviculture project for the District of Lewisporte. The funding for this project, valued at $64,000, has been provided through the provincial government's silviculture program.

Mr. Woodford said silviculture activity greatly benefits many communities throughout Newfoundland and Labrador, particularly the rural areas of our province. "Our silviculture initiatives provide meaningful employment while helping enhance our forest resource and sustain our forest industries for the future," said Mr. Woodford.

Activity for this project will consist of site preparation of approximately 300 hectares of commercially logged areas to facilitate planting of seedlings during the spring of 2002.

The contract for this project has been awarded to Central Forest Developers Limited. Activity is currently underway, providing employment for four people over a period of eight weeks.
