Minister to discuss softwood lumber dispute with Atlantic counterparts in PEI

Rick Woodford, Minister of Forest Resources and Agrifoods, will be discussing the softwood lumber trade dispute with his Atlantic counterparts on June 7 and 8 during the annual convention of the Maritime Lumber Bureau in Prince Edward Island.

"The province has been working diligently with other Atlantic provinces in ensuring that the Maritime Accord is renewed in light of the expiration of the Canada-U.S. Softwood Lumber Agreement," said Mr. Woodford. We have been lobbying tirelessly on this major issue and will continue to push for Atlantic Canadas exclusion from any countervailing duty, anti-dumping tariff or export tax."

Minister Woodford said his department will continue to work closely with the Maritime Lumber Bureau to ensure fair and free trade access to U.S markets for all Atlantic provinces. "I look forward to meeting with my counterparts on this important issue, as well as others related to the forest industry."
