Minister Aylward comments on government's forest management practices

Forest Resources and Agrifoods Minister Kevin Aylward today commented on the provincial governments forest management practices in response to allegations made by the Newfoundland and Labrador Wildlife Federation, represented by Owen Meyers.

"Government is confident that it has strong legislation in place as well as an appropriate regulatory environment to ensure protection of the provinces forest resources. The Department of Forest Resources and Agrifoods is committed to proper forest management and recognizes the importance of balancing the interests of the forestry industry with the need to protect our resources," Minister Aylward said.

The minister noted that he cannot comment on the matter currently before the courts as this could prejudice the case.
