Premiers holiday wishes for Newfoundlanders and Labradorians

"Seasons greetings. On behalf of the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador, I would like to wish all Newfoundlanders and Labradorians the best of the holiday season. I hope that everyone in the province enjoys a peaceful holiday season and a prosperous new year.

"This year, we celebrated a landmark in our provinces history - the 100th anniversary of Marconi receiving the first trans-Atlantic wireless message on Signal Hill. We also marked the International Year of Volunteers and, in special ceremonies held across the province, the Lieutenant-Governor recognized some of the dedicated long-time volunteers in the province.

"During this holiday season, we particularly remember those in New York and Washington and the men and women overseas defending our freedoms. And of course, we are especially proud of the response of Newfoundlanders and Labradorians in hosting the stranded travelers in September. This Christmas season, we are reminded that the wish for peace on earth is echoed by people from many countries around the world.

"We look forward to 2002 with the hope that the positive accomplishments of our people continue. With a new year ahead of us, each of us is provided with the opportunity to look to the future with renewed confidence.

"I would like to wish all Newfoundlanders and Labradorians well during this holiday season, and all the best for an enjoyable new year."
