Governor General Adrienne Clarkson will proclaim a constitutional amendment officially changing the name of the province to the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador tomorrow, December 6. Premier Roger Grimes will attend the proclamation ceremony in Ottawa on behalf of the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador.

"I am very pleased to be participating in the ceremony which will officially recognize in Canada's constitution the importance of Labrador to the province of Newfoundland and Labrador," said Premier Grimes. "This amendment was an issue of importance for the province, and the members of the House of Commons are to be commended for supporting this initiative. Of course, I am pleased that the Governor General will provide royal assent to this amendment."
