Premier announces new chief of staff

Premier Roger Grimes today appointed Robert Dornan as the new chief of staff for the Premier's Office. Art Reid, former chief of staff, has assumed new duties as a special advisor to the premier on major project benefits.

"I would like to thank Mr. Reid for his contributions as chief of staff, particularly in helping to guide government through a period of transition," said Premier Grimes. "Mr. Reid understands the priorities of this government, and will now play a key advisory role as we move forward with projects of significant importance to the people of this province. In particular, he will coordinate efforts and provide strategic advice with respect to the early development of offshore gas resources."

Robert Dornan is married and has two children. He holds a law degree from the University of New Brunswick, and a B.A. (History) and a B.Ed. from Memorial University of Newfoundland. Prior to joining the provincial government, Mr. Dornan worked with a major provincial labour union, practised law at French Browne, and was an executive assistant to former premier Clyde Wells.

"I welcome Mr. Dornan to his new position as chief of staff, and look forward to working with him. Mr. Dornan will play an important role in moving forward government's plans for economic development and social progress."

This new appointment is effective Monday, October 22.
