Cabinet committee announces regional tour

The Economic Policy and Rural Revitalization Committee of Cabinet is planning a working visit to several areas of the province, beginning Tuesday, October 2 on the west coast.

Committee chair Beaton Tulk, Minister of Industry, Trade and Rural Development, said the tour will largely centre on meetings with the four caucuses of Regional Economic Development Boards (REDB). The committee will also meet with other economic development stakeholders. The working visit will also give committee members an opportunity to get a first-hand look at some economic development initiatives under way in the various areas of the province.

Mr. Tulk said that because the committee has responsibility for implementing government's Jobs and Growth agenda, the two-way sharing of information during meetings with Regional Economic Development Board caucuses will be particularly relevant for the committee.

"We hope to have an open dialogue with boards and discuss how we can collectively continue to strengthen the focus of the rural agenda. Our discussions will help keep our economic agenda focused and on target so that we can continue to build on the economic growth we have been experiencing for several years," he said.

"We must build on the positive can-do' attitude that has been growing in our province, an attitude that was so evident during our public consultations for Jobs and Growth. In this context, the committee's tour is consistent with the spirit of those consultations."
