Premier extends condolences on passing of Dorothy Wyatt

Premier Roger Grimes today extended his condolences to the family of Dorothy Wyatt.

"Ms. Wyatt was a dynamic, colorful woman who contributed enormously to municipal politics in this province," said the premier. "Ms. Wyatt broke new ground in municipal politics. She was the first woman elected to St. Johns city council, the first female mayor of the city and she was the longest-serving city councillor.

"Her campaign slogan, Vote For Wyatt, She Wont Be Quiet, exemplified not only her unique character, but also her concern and caring for the ordinary citizen. Her devotion to the people of St. Johns and her contribution to the citys governance as both mayor and councillor leaves a lasting legacy. She will be missed."
