Premier announces senior appointment

Premier Roger Grimes today announced the appointment of Brian Meaney as asssistant deputy minister of aquaculture development for the Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture.

"The aquaculture industry in Newfoundland and Labrador has become a significant contributor to the diversification of our province�s rural economy, and is an important part of the revitalization of our rural communities," said Premier Grimes in making the announcement.

The appointment is effectively immediately.

BRIAN MEANEY
Appointed as
Assistant Deputy Minister of Aquaculture Development
Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture

Mr. Meaney began his career with the provincial government in 1985 as an aquaculturist with the then Department of Fisheries. He became the aquaculture program manager in 1990 and director of finfish aquaculture development in 1997, and was temporarily assigned to the position of assistant deputy minister for aquaculture development in March 1998. Before joining government, Mr. Meaney worked as a salmon biologist and project biologist with the Salmon Association of Eastern Newfoundland. He holds a bachelor of science degree in biology from Memorial University of Newfoundland and has completed the executive development program of the Centre for Management Development at Memorial University.
