Environmental Assessment Bulletin

Environment Minister Ralph Wiseman has announced the following events relative to the Environmental Assessment Act. Copies of documents may be obtained by contacting the Department of Environment at 729-2562 or by calling toll-free 1-800-563-6181. Comments on submitted documents are invited from the public, addressed in writing to the minister, and are welcome prior to the deadline date shown.

UNDERTAKING REGISTERED:

Five-Year Operating Plan for Crown Land Forest Management District 16 (Jackson's Arm Area)
Proponent: Department of Forest Resources and Agrifoods

This plan outlines all proposed activities on Crown controlled limits, including any exchanges or transfers from the two pulp and paper companies. The intent of the plan is to allow operators to extract timber at sustainable levels and for the Crown to conduct its silviculture and roads program in a manner that will sustain the individual operations while having minimal impact on the forest ecosystem.

The undertaking was registered December 17, public comments are due January 22 and the minister's decision is due on January 31.

The minister has released the undertaking from environmental assessment in accordance with the provisions of the Environmental Assessment Act.
