Environmental Assessment Bulletin
Environment Minister Ralph Wiseman has announced the following events relative to the Environmental Assessment Act.
UNDERTAKINGS RELEASED:
1) Amendment to Five Year Forest Operating Plan, District 16 (Hinds Lake and Snowy Lake)
Proponent: Corner Brook Pulp and Paper Limited
The minister has released the undertaking from environmental assessment in accordance with the provisions of the Environmental Assessment Act. It should be noted that the proponent has withdrawn the 16 kilometre section of primary resource access road located in the Buchans Plateau region. Of the 23 kilometres of resource road originally proposed, only 7.5 kilometres may be constructed.
2) Hammerdown Mine
Proponent: Richmont Mines Inc.
The minister has released the undertaking from environmental assessment in accordance with the provisions of the Environmental Assessment Act.
MINISTER'S DECISION DATE EXTENDED:
1) Amendment to Five Year Forest Operating Plan, District 15 (Grand Lake South)
Proponent: Corner Brook Pulp and Paper Limited
The minister has extended the decision date on the undertaking until October 15, 2001. The proponent requested the extension to enable further discussions with federal and provincial agencies on some outstanding issues of concern.
