UNDERTAKINGS REGISTERED:

Five Year Management Plan District 14 (Barachois Pond) Amendment
Proponent: Newfoundland Forest Service

The proponent proposes to construct an additional resource access road to those contained within the five year plan. The road will provide commercial operators with access to hardwood and softwood stands and facilitate future silviculture treatments. The proposed road begins approximately one kilometre south of the Burgeo Highway (Route 480) and is a branch of an existing access road locally known as Jack Joes. The road will be 2.2 km long and constructed to class C standard with a five metre driving surface. No stream crossings will be required. Timber will be harvested to accommodate the right-of-way and will be felled manually and forwarded by tractor trailer. Road construction is scheduled for the fall of 2001. The undertaking was registered on August 6, 2001, public comments are due September 12, and the minister's decision is due September 20.

Logy Bay Warehouse and Liquid Mud Plant
Proponent: M-1 Drilling Fluids Canada, Inc

The proponent proposes to relocate their warehouse and liquid mud plant, presently at two sites - warehouse at St. Anne's Industrial Park and liquid mud plant at Mount Pearl, into one location on Logy Bay Road. This consolidation is expected to improve the ability to enforce health, safety and environmental policies, reduce the transport of materials and allow staff to maintain closer supervision of the operations. There will be a main building (office, lab), a secondary building (blending of chemicals) and silos for the storage of water, brine and/or drilling mud. The undertaking was registered on August 7, 2001, public comments are due September 12, 2001, and the minister's decision is due September 21.
