UNDERTAKING REGISTERED:

Snowmobile Trail (New-Wes-Valley to Gander)
Proponent: Newfoundland and Labrador Snowmobile Association

The proponent proposes to develop a 57 km snowmobile trail from an area near the town of New-Wes-Valley, Bonavista Bay, to connect with the Provincial Integrated Snowmobile Trail near Gander. Phase One would consist of trimming of trees and low growth along the old Route 320, 24 km long, 6 m wide. Phase Two includes a 13 km section, 6 m wide, along an old forest access road. Phase Two also includes a 14 km section through undeveloped land, mostly low spruce. The proponent proposes that existing bridges, etc. would be repaired or new bridging/culverts installed where necessary. Warm-up shelters and look-off sites would also be constructed. The proponent anticipates that construction will begin in the early fall of 2001, employing approximately 20 workers for four months.

The project was registered on July 25, 2001, public comments are due August 29, and the minister's decision is due September 8.

The minister encourages interested parties to make comments known. Further information may be obtained by contacting the Director of Environmental Assessment at (709) 729-2562 or toll-free: 1-800-563-6181 or by mail to:
