Environmental Assessment Bulletin
Environment Minister Ralph Wiseman has announced the following event relative to the Environmental Assessment Act. Copies of documents received may be obtained by contacting the Department of Environment at (709) 729-2562 or by calling toll-free 1-800-563-6181. Comments are invited from the public, addressed in writing to the minister, and are welcome prior to the deadline date.

Salt Pond Gas Turbine Relocation Project (Wesleyville)
Proponent: Newfoundland Power
The proponent proposes to move the 13.4 MW gas turbine now at Salt Pond, Burin to an existing Newfoundland Power substation property on a gravel roadway (old Highway) 300 metres south of Highway 320, three km southwest of Pound Cove, Bonavista Bay. Modifications to the Wesleyville site include an expanded gravel fenced work area; construction of a gas turbine building (control room and battery room); and installation of two double-walled 75,000-litre fuel storage tanks, associated fuel lines, forwarders, filters, and coolers.
The proponent intends to do design work in September 2001, start site work in October, dismantle at Salt Pond in June 2002, and commission at the new site in October 2002. Two thousand person days of contracted and Newfoundland Power staff will be required with 12 to 15 working on the project at the peak of construction
The project was registered on July 16, 2001, public comments are due August 21, and the minister's decision is due August 30.
