Green Bay Waste Authority Inc. receives Waste Management Trust Fund grants

Ralph Wiseman, Minister of Environment, today announced that the Green Bay Waste Authority Inc. received two grants from the Newfoundland and Labrador Waste Management Trust Fund.

Incorporated in January 2001, the Green Bay Waste Authority is responsible for developing and coordinating a regional approach to waste management, including examining waste diversion possibilities, in the Green Bay area. The authority has ownership of the waste disposal site in South Brook which will be the regional waste disposal site for the area.

The Green Bay Waste Authority Inc. received a grant for $174,000 to purchase a track loader for use at the South Brook waste disposal site. This equipment is necessary for the proper maintenance and landfilling of the site. A second grant of $7,200 was awarded to the authority to develop a waste management brochure for the residents affected by the regionalization project at the South Brook site. The brochure will provide information on waste pick-up, recycling and composting efforts, and how the new regional site will benefit the residents, the communities, and the environment.

"The Green Bay Waste Authority is a proactive group dedicated to improving waste management in their region by developing and promoting waste diversion programs in conjunction with developing and upgrading a new regional waste site. They are a positive example for other regions in our province and I am pleased that to see them receive grants from the Newfoundland and Labrador Waste Management Trust Fund," said Minister Wiseman.

The Newfoundland and Labrador Waste Management Trust Fund provides financial assistance to aid in the development and implementation of waste management initiatives in the province. The trust fund is administered by the Multi-Materials Stewardship Board (MMSB) with the Minister of Environment responsible for final funding approval.
