Environmental Assessment Bulletin

Environment Minister Ralph Wiseman has announced the following events relative to the Environmental Assessment Act. Copies of documents may be obtained by contacting the Department of Environment, 729-2562, or by calling toll-free 1-800-563-6181. Comments on documents are invited from the public, addressed in writing to the minister, and are welcome prior to the deadline dates shown.

UNDERTAKING RELEASED:

Shabogamo Lake Cottage Access Road
Proponent: Gary Philpott 

The minister has released the undertaking from environmental assessment in accordance with the provisions of the Environmental Assessment Act.

GUIDELINES FOR ENVIRONMENTAL PREVIEW REPORT ISSUED:

Avondale Automobile Drag Racing
Proponent: Bernard Hickey (Newfoundland Stock Car Association)

As the result of the minister's decision on May 25, 2001, to require the proponent to submit an Environmental Preview Report (EPR), the minister has issued guidelines to the proponent. The guidelines are intended to provide instructions for preparation of the EPR. The EPR is required to address issues such as recreational use of the area, noise pollution and potential effects upon the Avondale River. Following submission of the EPR, it will be available to the public for review.

UNDERTAKINGS REGISTERED:

1. Pamehoc Brook Forest Road Realignment, Forest Management District 11
Proponent: Abitibi-Consolidated

The proponent proposes to redirect and construct 4.0 km of class "C" road as an amendment to the previously approved Five Year Operating Plan. The purpose of this construction is to improve access to previously approved harvest operating areas. The undertaking was registered July 13, 2001, public comments are due on August 17, 2001, and the minister's decision is due on August 27, 2001.

2. Gull Pond Forest Road Realignment, Forest Management District 10 
Proponent: Abitibi-Consolidated

The proponent proposes to redirect and construct 1.75 km of class "C" road as an amendment to the previously approved Five Year Operating Plan. The purpose of this construction is to improve access to previously approved harvest operating areas. The undertaking was registered on July 13, 2001, public comments are due on August 17, 2001, and the minister's decision is due on August 27, 2001.
