Environmental Assessment Bulletin

UNDERTAKING RELEASED:

Experimental Application of the Balsam Fir Sawfly Nuclear Polyhedrosis Virus
Proponent: Natural Resources Canada, Canadian Forest Service

The minister has released the project from environmental assessment in accordance with the provisions of the Environmental Assessment Act.  The proposed spray program is located outside any protected water supply and is subject to the conditions stipulated in the Pesticide Operator Licence which is issued under the Pesticide Control Act.

In addition to environmental protection measures, the licence requires public notification of the spray program by:

  • advertising in a local newspaper;
  • posting signs in areas to be treated;
  • verbal notification of adjacent dwelling owners;
  • publication of a toll-free information number.

Furthermore, in accordance with the provisions of the Provincial Parks Act, spraying is not permitted within the boundaries of Jipujijkuei Park.
