Environmental Assessment Bulletin

Environment Minister Ralph Wiseman has announced the following events relative to the Environmental Assessment Act. In the case of documents received, copies may be obtained by contacting the Department of Environment or by calling toll-free 1-800-563-6181. Comments on submitted documents are invited from the public, addressed in writing to the minister, and are welcome prior to the deadline date shown.


UNDERTAKING REGISTERED:

Forest Management District 15, Amendment to Five Year Operating Plan
Proponent: Corner Brook Pulp and Paper Limited

The proponent proposes to construct fourteen kilometres of primary resource road in the North Harbour Road area which is south of the Town of Pasadena. The North Harbour Operating Area was submitted in the original Five-Year (1998-2002) Operating Plan as an alternate operating area. The project was registered on June 1, public comments are due July 10, and the minister's decision is due July 16.


UNDERTAKINGS RELEASED:

Abitibi-Consolidated Forest Management District 13 Amendment
Proponent: Abitibi-Consolidated

The minister has released the project from environmental assessment in accordance with the provisions of the Environmental Assessment Act, subject to the following condition:

Harvesting cannot occur in Block A which is approximately one fifth of the harvest area for the amendment and is located immediately Northeast of Padille Pond.

Forest Management District 5, Five Year Operating Plan (Amendment)

Proponent: Newfoundland Forest Service, Department of Forest Resources and Agrifoods

The minister has released the project from environmental assessment in accordance with the provisions of the Environmental Assessment Act.



Labrador Straits (Forteau Area) Vegetable Peat Bog Pilot Project
Proponent: Southern Labrador Development Corporation

The minister has released the project from environmental assessment in accordance with the provisions of the Environmental Assessment Act. The proponent has notified the minister that the composting portion of this undertaking has been withdrawn.
