Environmental Assessment Bulletin
Environment Minister Ralph Wiseman has announced the following relative to the Environmental Assessment Act. In the case of documents received or approved, copies may be obtained by contacting the Department of Environment or by calling toll-free 1-800-563-6181. Comments on submitted documents are invited from the public, addressed in writing to the minister, and are welcome prior to the deadline date shown.
UNDERTAKINGS REGISTERED:
Forest Management District 18, Five Year Operating Plan (Amendment)
Northern Half of the Great Northern Peninsula
Proponent: Newfoundland Forest Service, Department of Forest Resources and Agrifoods
This amendment is for the construction of additional forest access roads to access timber stands beyond the expiry date (March 31, 2002) of the current Five-Year Operating Plan. The areas are in the vicinity of Sail Pond, Dawes Pond Forest Access Road, Marble Mine Forest Access Road, Spring Hill Operating Area and Flat Brook Operating Area. This undertaking was registered on April 19, 2001, public comments are due May 25, 2001 and the minister's decision is due on June 3, 2001.
Forest Management District 5, Five Year Operating Plan (Amendment)
Between Gander River and Terra Nova National Park
Proponent: Newfoundland Forest Service, Department of Forest Resources and Agrifoods
This amendment is for additional silviculture treatment in the operating area. The area is between Gander River and Terra Nova National Park, north of the Trans Canada Highway, extending north to the coast and including Fogo Island. The amendments are in the Maccles Lake and Northwest Arm region and will require the treatment of approximately 215 hectares of forest land. This undertaking was registered on April 19, 2001, public comments are due May 25, 2001 and the minister's decision is due on June 3, 2001.
