NLIS 3 April 12, 2001 (Environment) Environmental Assessment Bulletin Environment Minister Ralph Wiseman has announced the following events relative to the Environmental Assessment Act. In the case of documents received or approved, copies may be obtained by contacting the Department of Environment or by calling toll-free 1-800-563-6181. Comments on submitted documents are invited from the public, addressed in writing to the minister, and are welcome prior to the deadline date shown. UNDERTAKINGS REGISTERED: Churchill Falls to Goose Bay Snowmobile Trail The proponent proposes to construct and maintain a 240 km, two-way, winter snowmobile trail from Muskrat Falls to Churchill Falls in Labrador. The trail will have a right of way cut to winter trail specifications, six metres wide and following transmission lines and old roads where possible. The trail is intended for winter use only and no construction of bridges is anticipated. Rest stations will be placed on skids and located approximately 50 km apart. Trail development, including appropriate signage is expected to commence in the summer/fall of 2001 and be completed within 13 weeks. The project was registered on April 12, 2001, public comments are due May 17, and the minister's decision is due May 27. Mulligan to Postville/Makkovik Snowmobile
Trail The proponent proposes to construct and maintain a 120 km, two-way, winter snowmobile trail from Mulligan to Postville and a 65 km, two-way, winter snowmobile trail from Burnt Lake to Makkovik in Labrador. The trail will have a right of way cut to winter trail specifications, six metres wide, is intended for winter use only and no construction of bridges is anticipated. Rest stations will be placed on skids and located approximately 50 km apart. Trail development, including appropriate signage is expected to commence in the summer of 2001 and be completed within 23 weeks. The project was registered on April 12, 2001, public comments are due May 17, and the minister's decision is due May 27. The minister encourages all interested parties to become involved and to make comments known.
