Environmental Assessment Bulletin

Environment Minister Ralph Wiseman has announced the following event relative to the Environmental Assessment Act.

UNDERTAKING RELEASED

Fleur de Lys Water Supply Development (Expansion)
Proponent: Town of Fleur de Lys

The minister has released the project from environmental assessment in accordance with the provisions of the Environmental Assessment Act and subject to the following condition:

The chemical analysis of source water indicates high levels of colour and dissolved organic carbon (DOC) which are precursors for trihalomethane (THM) formation in the presence of chlorination. This factor should be considered by the proponent in selecting the disinfectant and point of injection to minimize THM formation. Therefore, prior to construction of the project, the proponent is required to submit to this department for approval, the final water treatment design in an effort to reduce the level of THMs in the water.
