NOTE TO EDITORS:

Minister attends School for the Deaf drama production

Education Minister Judy Foote is attending the School for the Deaf's annual Christmas drama production, entitled A Christmas Wish, on Thursday, December 20 at 11 a.m.

A Christmas Wish was written specifically for the school's deaf students by Fred Hawksley, and is directed by Patricia Hawksley, the School for the Deaf's drama teacher. Most of the school's 76 students will be participating in the play.

In addition to winning two provincial drama competitions, The Newfoundland and Labrador School for the Deaf drama program is recognized internationally. In 2002, three American student teachers will do their teaching internship at the School for the Deaf.

The media are also invited to attend the play's dress rehearsals continuing today from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Students will perform in sign language while voicers interpret the play simultaneously.
