Minister encourages students to take part in
National Students Against Impaired Driving Day

Education Minister Judy Foote today encourages all students across Newfoundland and Labrador to participate in activities associated with National Students Against Impaired Driving (NSAID) Day . The third annual NSAID Day on October 16 teaches students about the hazards associated with impaired driving.

"Drinking and driving affects young and old alike," said Minister Foote. "Each year, too many Newfoundlanders and Labradorians are injured or killed because of drunk driving. NSAID Day activities play an integral role in making sure students are fully aware of the potential repercussions of drinking and driving.

"I applaud all our students who are voluntarily participating in NSAID Day activities. They are taking a stand and encouraging others to do the same. Their commitment to ending drinking and driving is to be commended."

This year, 18 schools in Newfoundland and Labrador join over 300 schools across Canada in NSAID Day activities. This is an increase over last year, when 10 schools in the province participated. NSAID Day activities are designed to educate students about the repercussions of impaired driving and to encourage them to take an active part in helping their peers change their behaviour.
