Province participates in national tree lighting ceremony

The Province of Newfoundland and Labrador will once again celebrate the Christmas Lights Across Canada Ceremony with the rest of Canada.

On December 7 at 6:15 p.m. Premier Beaton Tulk will turn Christmas lights on along Confederation Hill and the Prince Philip Parkway. The ceremony will be held in front of Confederation Buildings East Block in St. Johns. Similar ceremonies will take place on Parliament Hill and in most provincial and territorial capitals in a national celebration of Christmas.

"This is our 14th year participating in the tree lighting ceremony," said Works, Services and Transportation Minister Rick Woodford. "It is something the province enjoys every year and its a tradition we are happy to continue."

Christmas lights and holiday scenes will be displayed throughout Confederation Hill, along with lighting at the College of the North Atlantic, Memorial University, Health Sciences Centre and Signal Hill. Christmas lights will also be illuminated on provincial buildings in Clarenville, Gander, Grand Falls-Windsor, Corner Brook, Happy Valley-Goose Bay and Wabush.

The St Pius X Elementary School Choir and Salvation Army St. John's Citadel Band will provide the entertainment for the evening and refreshments will be served. The public and media are invited to attend.
