Construction to begin on replacement bridge at Little Falls

Visitors entering Sir Richard Squires Park will soon have a new bridge to cross when they reach the Humber River.

Rick Woodford, Minister of Works, Services and Transportation, today announced that a contract valued at $585,120 has been awarded to Brook Enterprises Inc. of Corner Brook to design, supply and install a new bridge over the Humber River at Little Falls. The contract includes the construction of a new 94.5 metre galvanized, three span, panel-type (bailey) bridge on Route 422.

The new bridge will replace the old concrete bridge, which was removed in June for safety reasons after the force of the river caused the base of one of the piers to partially erode and shift. The previous bridge had been in place since 1948.

"The old bridge was no longer safe for any kind of traffic and we had to replace it," said Minister Woodford. "We are expecting construction of the new bridge to be completed by the end of October."
