$1.5 million for road upgrading in Makkovik

Rick Woodford, Minister of Works, Services and Transportation, and Wally Anderson, MHA for the District of Torngat Mountains, are pleased to announce the awarding of a $1,530,901.85 contract to Labrador Construction Ltd. of Goose Bay, Labrador. This money will be used for road upgrading and drainage system improvement for the community of Makkovik, Labrador.

After touring the north coast communities last fall with the local M.H.A., Minister Woodford said he found the roads to be among the worst in the province. He has since made a firm commitment to upgrade all of the community roads throughout the District of Torngat Mountains.

Andersen said that Minister Woodford is to be commended for such a commitment. Not only will the communities get much improved road conditions, it will also provide local residents with employment. Work is to begin immediately and should be completed by mid-summer of 2001.
