Contract awarded for new school in Lethbridge/Musgravetown area

Rick Woodford, Minister of Works, Services and Transportation, is pleased to announce that a $4,218,200 contract (HST included) has been awarded to Nadco Engineering and Construction of Clarenville for the construction of a new school in the Lethbridge/Musgravetown area.

Tenders for the new building closed July 21, 2000.

The new school, which will accommodate grades eight to 12, is to be built adjacent to L. R. Ash Elementary in Lethbridge and will serve a total of 14 communities in the area. Construction should be completed in time for the 2001-2002 school year.

The contract includes the construction of nine classrooms, as well as two special education classrooms and one challenging needs classroom. The building will feature many modern facilities for home economics, design planning and fabrication, music and art. It will also include separate health, guidance and itinerant facilities, a gymnasium, a biology/chemistry lab, and a general science/physics lab.

"This is going to be a very comprehensive facility for the area," said Mr. Woodford. "Musgravetown Regional High School has outlived its usefulness and its time to look to the future. This school will address the needs of area students for many years to come."
