Contract awarded for road work in central Newfoundland

Rick Woodford, Minister of Works, Services and Transportation, and Anna Thistle, MHA for Grand Falls-Buchans, today announced that a $2,649,357.35 contract has been awarded to Municipal Construction Ltd. of Mount Pearl, NF.

Work will include the supply and placement of surface course asphalt of 8.3 km of Route 1 from Scott Avenue to Beothuck Provincial Park (km 428 to 436.3); upgrading and paving 5 km of Route 1 from Beothuck Provincial Park towards Red Cliff (km 436.3 to km 441.3); and upgrading and paving parking lots at the Arts & Culture Centre and College of the North Atlantic in Grand Falls-Windsor.

"I am pleased to see these road infrastructure improvements will be carried out this year," said Ms. Thistle. "This work will be a great benefit to the entire central region."

Ms. Thistle said work will be completed by September 30, 2000.
