The following is being distributed at the request of Marine Atlantic:

Max Mols is accessible

Contrary to recent reports, Marine Atlantics high-speed ferry Max Mols is accessible to persons with disabilities and the corporation is accepting bookings. "We acknowledge that there are some restrictions, but the ship is accessible up to the main deck," says vice-president Bud Harbidge.

Harbidge says the ship has wheelchair ramps and an adapted washroom on the main passenger area. Several tables have also been marked for people in wheelchairs near the cafeteria on that same level. Persons with disabilities are given complete details of the vessels capabilities when they call the reservations office to book a crossing.

Also contrary to some reports, the Max Mols can carry approximately 40 vehicles up to nine feet high, including mini-vans. Motor homes and vehicles towing large trailers cannot be accommodated and will be taken onboard one of Marine Atlantics other ferries.

The Max Mols will make its first passenger crossing from Port aux Basques to North Sydney on Friday, June 23. The high-speed ferry will make two round trips daily between Newfoundland and Nova Scotia.
