The Minister of Works, Services and Transportation Rick Woodford wishes to advise the public that the Lewisporte, St. Anthony and Happy Valley-Goose Bay terminals will begin accepting freight for southern Labrador ports, including Rigolet Tuesday June 6. The freight service will commence Friday June 9 from Lewisporte. This start date is for freight traffic only using both the M/V Nada and M/V Astron. The Nada will serve all southern Labrador ports between Lewisporte and Rigolet while the Astron will serve all ports between Lewisporte and Happy Valley-Goose Bay.

The minister wishes to also inform the public that passenger service between Lewisporte, Cartwright and Happy Valley-Goose Bay will start June 17. The service will initially be modified from previous seasons with passenger traffic travelling on the M/V Northern Ranger and the accompanying vehicular traffic travelling on the M/V Nada using the same schedule published for the M/V Sir Robert Bond. This temporary change to the service is required until the Bond completes its refit later this month.

Passengers with prior reservations for the Bond will be contacted by the operator, Coastal Labrador Marine Services Ltd. to reschedule their trip or passengers may call 1-800-563-6353. A further announcement will be made when the Bond is ready to begin operating between Lewisporte, Cartwright and Happy Valley-Goose Bay.

When ice conditions permit the department will announce the start of coastal boat service for northern Labrador ports.

Media contact: Lynn Evans, Director of Communications, (709) 729-3015.
