Town of Carbonear to get new traffic lights

The Town of Carbonear will get a new set of traffic lights for the intersection of Fox Farm Road and Route 70. The intersection is slated to be the access point for the towns new Canadian Tire store. Works, Services and Transportation Minister Rick Woodford and Carbonear-Harbour Grace MHA George Sweeney made the announcement today.

Under an agreement with the Carbonear Town Council, the Department of Works, Services and Transportation will provide the materials for the job, which are valued at $25,000. The Town of Carbonear will have full responsibility for the installation of the lights, as well as any future operating and maintenance costs associated with the lights. Works, Services and Transportation personnel will also be available to offer guidance during the installation, which will begin in the near future.

"The people of Carbonear should be very pleased with this announcement," said Mr. Sweeney. "This is an extremely busy intersection, and its going to be a lot busier when the new store opens. This just goes to show this governments commitment to an efficient road infrastructure across this province."
