The following is being distributed at the request of the Newfoundland and Labrador High School Athletic Federation:

Provincial high school Girls A volleyball championships

The High School Athletic Federation�s volleyball provincial championships get under way this coming weekend with the first of nine major competitions. The island Girls A championships are being hosted by Bishop White All Grade and St. Marks Central High in Port Rexton/Kings Cove.

Eight teams are contesting the event. The winner of the island tournament will advance to the provincial championships in Churchill Falls on December 8 and 9. This weekend�s tournament will be set up in a two division round robin format. Division A, played out of St. Marks, will see competition from the host school along with Holy Name of Mary Academy (Lawn), Ecole St. Anne (Port au Port) and MSB Academy (Middle Arm). Contesting the title in Division B at Bishop White will be Gill Memorial (Musgrave Harbour), Cottrels Cove Academy, Sacred Heart (Conche) and the host school.

Matches begin 10:00 a.m. at Bishop White All Grade and 11:00 a.m. at St. Marks Friday. Semi-finals will be played at 10:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. Saturday, followed by the bronze medal game at 12:30 p.m. and championship match at 1:30 p.m.
