The following is being distributed at the request of the Newfoundland and Labrador High School Athletic Federation:

Provincial high school boys and girls soccer championships this weekend

Three provincial High School Athletic Federation soccer champions will be declared this coming weekend, as the federation clues up its soccer season.

The Boys 4A soccer will be hosted on the Burin Peninsula by St. Lawrence Central High. A total of eight teams will compete for the provincial banner over the course of three days. Playing in one division will be the host school, Carbonear Integrated, Holy Spirit High (Manuels) and Exploits Valley High (Grand Falls-Windsor). Vying for the top playoff spots from the other division will be O�Donel High (Mount Pearl), Marystown Central High, Elwood Regional High (Deer Lake) and Stephenville High. The tournament gets under way at 2 p.m. Thursday and round robin play continues throughout Friday. The cross-over and championship games are scheduled for Saturday.

O�Donel High in Mount Pearl is the host school for the Girls 4A soccer tournament. Six schools will compete for the provincial title. Division 1 will see action from Bishop�s College, Marystown Central High and the host O�Donel High. Battling it out in division 2 will be Mount Pearl Senior High, Stephenville High, Holy Heart of Mary (St. John�s). Games get under way Friday at 9 a.m. from both Middle Smallwood Field and Central Field. The cross over games are scheduled for 9 a.m. Saturday with the championship and bronze medal games at 1 p.m.

Belanger Memorial in Doyles will host the five team 3A Girls soccer championships. Division A will have competition from Mobile Central High, Belanger Memorial, Baie Verte High in a round robin format beginning 3 p.m. on Thursday. Division B will see St. Lawrence Central High and Templeton Collegiate play a two game total point with the first game 9 a.m. Friday. The cross overs will be played at 10 a.m. and 12 p.m. on Saturday, followed by the championship game at 3 p.m.

Keyin College and the School Milk Foundation/Dairy Farmers Association are the sponsors for all the provincial tournaments.
