Annual general meeting

The annual general meeting of Sport Newfoundland and Labrador will take place on Saturday, October 14 at the Delta Hotel in St. John�s. Registration for this year�s annual meeting will begin at 8:30 a.m. with a complimentary continental breakfast for the registered meeting delegates and invited guests. The annual meeting will get under way at 9:00 a.m.

Items of business for the meeting include a review of Sport Newfoundland and Labrador�s activities over the past year, the Strategic Plan update, 18 month critical path, constitutional changes and two workshops. The election of officers will see elections for the position of president, first vice-president, second vice-president, secretary, and treasurer. The elections for the position of western director, eastern director and director-at-large will be for a two-year term. Barbara Predham of Mount Pearl is this year�s chairperson of the nominating committee.

The first workshop entitled "National Sport Trust Fund" will take place at 10:30 a.m. The workshop facilitator will be Scott Logan, executive director of Sport Nova Scotia. Logan, who is currently chair of the National Sport Trust Fund Management Committee, will detail the trust fund program outlining the many benefits that provincial sport organizations and provincial sport federations are deriving from being involved in this very worthwhile program. At 2:30 p.m., the second workshop entitled "KidSport" will take place. Mr. Logan will also be the facilitator for this session. Sport Nova Scotia is one of the leading provincial sport federations in Canada and Mr. Logan will let the meeting delegates and guests know how the National Sport Trust Fund Program and KidSport have benefitted, in particular, sport in Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and New Brunswick.

During the luncheon, beginning at 12:30 p.m., Scott Logan will give a brief perspective of the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games. Logan, who is a former Olympic medal winner in the sport of canoeing, attended the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney as a guest CBC commentator for the canoe/kayak events. As well, Rosalind Pound, chairperson of the awards committee, will announce the winners of the 1999 Provincial Athletic Awards - senior male and female; junior male and female; team of the year; coach of the year; and executive of the year.

The annual meeting is expected to wrap up at 5:00 p.m.
