NLIS 6 The following is being distributed at the request of Sport Newfoundland and Labrador: Canadian Junior Taekwondo Championships Members of the NF WTF Taekwondo Association represented the province at this years Canadian National Junior Taekwondo Championships in Moncton, New Brunswick. The team was comprised of officials & athletes from 5 different regions of the province including St. John�s, Conception Bay, Stephenville, Port Aux Basques & Happy Valley Goose Bay. More than 600 young athletes participated in this event from all across the country. Team Newfoundland Results Six Gold Medalists in the Fighting Competition:

Newfoundland also took seven medals in the Patterns Competition (Patterns are a per-arranged solo performance referred to by some as a type of war dance).
Our TOTAL medal tally was: 8 Gold / 9 Silver / 13 Bronze This event marked the first time such a diverse group of athletes from our province participated in National Team trials in the Sport of Taekwondo. Taekwondo Canada hosts three National Championships a year, as part of the selection process for Team Canada. Athletes selected to be on Team Canada are qualified to participate in the World Taekwondo Championships, the Pan-Am Games & the most coveted sporting event of all, the Olympic Games. While the Olympic Team has already been selected, the gold medalists in the Junior Blackbelt division from this event will represent Canada at the World Junior Championships in Ireland this November.
