National juvenile volleyball results

Two teams competed in the Investors National Juvenile Volleyball Championship this past weekend in Winnipeg, Manitoba. On the boys side, the province was represented by the Loopers Volleyball Club comprised of players from Musgrave Harbor, Carmanville, Lumsden and Hr. Breton and coached by Dennis Lush and Gerald Wheeler. The Vipers from Corner Brook represented the province on the girls side and were coached by Finton Gaudette.

The boys had a very successful weekend finishing in sixth place out of 22 teams. On the first day of competition they finished with a 2-1 record, defeating Dartmouth Lakers-Nova Scotia 1 and Georgian Cubs-Ontario 3. The teams first loss was to Kelowna Black - BC3 in a close three set match. This 2-1 record earned them a spot in the Tier 1 championship round for day 2 of the competition, playing against the remaining top teams from across the country. In the Loopers Pool for the second day of the event were Prince Albert - SK1 and NAVC Gold - AB1. The first match on the second day of competition saw the Loopers face SK1 who they defeated 2-1, next they faced NAVC Gold Bears, the eventual winners of the event, losing in two straight sets. This 1-1 record in the pool placed them against NAVC Gold for the teams first playoff match with NAVC Gold coming out on top in two straight. The final match on the second day for the Loopers was versus PVC Force - AB2 defeating them in three sets, thus earning the right to play for 5th and 6th on the final day. In the 5th- 6th playoff match, they faced Bronte Beach ON 2 losing to them in two straight sets.

The girls team did not have a successful weekend, as they lost all three matches on the first day vs Pandas Gold - AB1, Northshore - ON3 and Ducks - BC4. This result put the team in the Tier 2 Championship for the second round of competition. In the teams Pool for Day 2 were: Cyclones - NB 1 and Parksville - BC 5, losing both matches thus placing them against the Ducks - BC 4 for their first playoff match to determine final placing. The Vipers lost this match versus the Ducks and then finally played Kent Nord - NB 1 losing that match to finish last in the event.
