The following is being distributed at the request of the Newfoundland Labrador High School Athletic Federation:

Provincial High School Badminton Championships this weekend

Provincial High School Badminton Championships will be held this coming weekend in the 3A and 4A Division.

The 3A championships are being hosted by Menihek High School in Labrador City. An island tournament was held two weeks ago to determine the island representative to this tournament. Glovertown Regional High School was the winner of the island tournament and will compete against the host Menihek, Eric G. Lambert (Churchill Falls), J. C. Erhardt (Makkovik) and Goose High School. The team championship starts at 7:00 p.m. Thursday with a round robin format. The competition will consist of an encounter system of five matches, boys and girls singles, boys and girls doubles and mixed doubles. The team winning three out of five matches will be awarded the point.

The individual championship begins Saturday at 9:00 a.m. Individual champions will be declared in boys singles, girls singles, boys doubles, girls doubles and mixed doubles.

Queen Elizabeth Regional High in Foxtrap is the host school for the 4A championships. This event will follow the same format with a team championship followed by an individual championship. Teams competing at the 4A level include Queen Elizabeth Regional High, Holy Heart of Mary, Prince of Wales Collegiate and Jakeman All Grade School (Trout River).
