Minor Pepsi Championships

The Newfoundland and Labrador Basketball Association kicks off the 2000 provincial Pepsi tournaments this weekend March 24-25 with four championships in various regions of the province. St. Gerard�s in Corner Brook will play host to the under 12 boys and girls west coast championships which have 13 teams registered. The boy�s event has eight teams registered including St. Gerard�s, J.J. Curling, Sacred Heart, Humber Elementary and C.C. Loughlin from Corner Brook, St. Jame�s of Port aux Basques, Deer Lake Elementary, and Indian River Middle from Springdale. Five teams are competing in the girls championship including St. Gerard�s A and B and J.J. Curling of Corner Brook, Indian River of Springdale and Bonne Bay Academy of Woody Point.

The east coast under 12 boys tournament is slated for St. Catherine�s Academy in St. Mary�s Bay and is filled with eight teams. Teams include the host St. Catherine�s, Baltimore of Ferryland, Holy Cross from Holyrood, St. Patrick�s of Bay Bulls, St. Kevin�s from the Goulds , Placentia, St. Anne�s of Conception Harbour, St. Augustine�s of St. John�s.

The east coast under 12 girls tournament is slated for St. Kevin�s school in the Goulds and has eight teams entered. Teams include St. Kevin�s sixes and St. Kevin�s fives, St. Anne�s of Conception Harbour, Holy Cross of Holyrood, Placentia, Baltimore of Ferryland and Fatima of St. Bride�s.

Competitions in all events commence on Friday and conclude Saturday evening. The events are sponsored by Pepsi, the official sponsor for minor basketball in the province.
