Accommodations on Discovery Trail not a problem for 2000 tourism season

The Discovery Trail Tourism Association (DTTA) announced today that despite rumours to the contrary, the availability of accommodations along the Discovery Trail for the 2000 tourist season looks better than ever.

"There has been some concern of about lack of accommodations in the region due to Random Passage, a drama series being filmed near by, which has brought several cast and crew members into the area," said Fred Cooper, president of the DTTA. "However, I can assure the travelling public that there is no problem to obtain accommodations along the Discovery Trail this summer, which is an important point, as we expect another banner tourism season."

There are many exciting things happening along the Discovery Trail this summer including the opening of Rising Tides new Theatre Centre and several annual community festivals and events. Due to the high level of activity planned along the trail this year, there had been concerns about visitors not being able to secure suitable accommodations. In response to this concern, the DTTA conducted a sample telephone survey which indicated that operators in and around historic Trinity still had plenty of bookings available for the 2000 tourism season.

"We are not concerned about a lack of accommodations along the trail, however we always suggest that people book space as early as possible, especially in a year when so much is happening on the Discovery Trail," added Cooper.

There are several bed and breakfasts, motels, hotels and cabins available along the Discovery Trail. For more information on available accommodations, call the provinces toll-free tourism line at 1-800-563-NFLD (6353) or visit the Web site at www.gov.nl.ca/tourism.
