Funding for Resource Centre for the Arts and LSPU Hall

Charles Furey, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation, today announced funding in the amount of $5,000 for the Resource Centre for the Arts and the LSPU Hall.

"We have a vibrant and dynamic arts community in Newfoundland and Labrador, representing an important component of our social fabric," said Furey. "Government is committed to supporting the preservation and promotion of our cultural heritage through the arts community. The Resource Centre for the Arts and the LSPU Hall serve to enhance and develop the artistic talent in the province and those creative individuals whose work we so value."

Since its inception in the early 1980s, the Gallery Division of the Resource Centre for the Arts has been offering a regular program of exhibits, workshops, forums, meetings and other related activities to visual artists in the province. The gallery serves the broadest base of professional visual artists in the province, as the only organization of its kind offering such opportunities and services. With 11 annual exhibits offering exciting visual arts programs for artists and the local and visiting public, annual visitation to the gallery is approximately 20,000 people.

This funding will help the Resource Centre for the Arts execute several fundraising projects, as well as the hiring of a person to organize the centres archival material.
