NOTE TO EDITORS:

Tourism, Culture and Recreation Minister Charles Furey will present a cheque to the Board of Directors of the Newfoundland Symphony Orchestra at an evening reception today (January 5). The cheque will effectively eliminate the long-term bank loan which the orchestra has been working toward retiring since 1991.

The media are invited to the reception which will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m at the Waterford Manor. The cheque presentation will be made at approximately 6:45 p.m.
