Road construction costs associated with storm damages

Joan Marie Aylward, Minister of Municipal and Provincial Affairs, is pleased to announce the approval of $974,205 under the Disaster Financial Assistance Agreement to cover the cost of  road re-construction associated with the storm surge damages on the Burin Peninsula which occurred in January of this year.  The projects include:

            1.  Allan�s Island Route 220-19 (Causeway)                              $57,200
           
2.  Point May Route 220-22 (Mick�s Cove Road)                      $141,262
           
3.  Fortune Area 3 - High Bank Area                                          31,500
           
4.  Lamaline Area 7 - Route 220                                                $2,838
            5.  Frenchman�s Cove                            Area 1                       $513,015
                                                
                        Area 2                      $228,390

  These projects are in conjunction with the Department of Works, Services and Transportation, which will cover the engineering costs, while the Department of Municipal and Provincial Affairs will finance the re-construction costs.  The work is expected to be completed this fall.

�In times of crisis, cooperation is vital.  I am pleased that the departments will partner on these projects to restore roads on the Burin Peninsula to pre-storm conditions,� said Minister Aylward.

�The department is glad to be able to offer its assistance to help rebuild the road infrastructure in this area, which received a significant amount of damage,� said Rick Woodford, Minister of Works, Services and Transportation. 

The funding is cost-shared by the province and the federal government through the Disaster Financial Assistance Agreement.
